When Beatrice and I went to see this together, she was very excited but I was a bit skeptical at first. This is not my kind of movie, but I decided to be open to new things (plus Colin Firth is a hottie!). In "Girl With a Pearl Earring", Scarlett Johansson plays Griet, a maid in 1655 Holland. Griet has to work for a painter, Johannes Vermeer (Firth), and his family in order to support her family after her father becomes blind. Vermeer becomes intoxicated with Griet's classic beauty, and lets her help him paint in his attic studio. A huge creep factor in this movie is Master Van Riujven (Tom Wilkinson), who is a patron of Vermeer's. He asks Vermeer to paint him and Griet, but due to the unspoken connection between Vermeer and Griet (That Van Riujven senses), he allows the two to be alone for a portrait of Griet alone.
Another cream factor besides Vermeer is Pieter (Cillian Murphy), who is the butcher's son and extremely good looking. He vies for Griet's attention, but she refuses to abandon Vermeer until she absolutely must.
The body language between Firth and Johansson is extremely hot. There is no denying chemistry there in the attic, as well as between Johansson and Murphy in alleyways and on walks in the park. Anyone can appreciate this kind of film simply because it was very well made with a great cast.
The HOTTness factor: HOTT. Between Firth and Murphy alone, the uncleanliness that they have with their open shirts and wild hair is, umm, jizz-worthy, to say the least. Total lady wood was had by both Beatrice and me.
Three pairs definitely creamed!
